A LOOK AT WHAT'S HAPPENING

Cross Country

  • The Vikings will have their final tune-up before the Horizon League Championship this week, as they are set to take part in the Jenna Strong Fall Classic on Friday, October 13. The race will begin at 4:30 pm.
  • Last time out, Cleveland State brought home a second place team finish from the Disney Cross Country Classic as Karen Barrientos and Anna Brandt both recorded top-10 individual finishes.

Men's Golf

  • The Vikings are out of action until next Monday and Tuesday (Oct. 16-17) when they close the fall season at the Dayton Flyer Invitational.
  • The squad won the CSU Invitational last week at Barrington CC. CSU was in third place after the first two rounds, but a final round 287 vaulted the Vikings into a tie for first place with Oakland and CSU used four pars on the first playoff hole to claim the title.
  • Junior Anton Krecic tied for third place and has been CSU's top finisher in all four events this fall, while senior Joey Krecic used a final round 67 - highlighted by eight birdies - to tie for fifth place.

Women's Golf

  • The Vikings close the fall season at the Shirley Spork Invitational on Monday and Tuesday (Oct. 9-10) in Ypsilanti, Mich. It will be CSU's first event since placing seventh of 10 teams at the Mary Fossum Invitational (Sept. 23-24).

Men's Soccer

  •  Cleveland State (5-5-1, 3-1-1 HL) opens a four-match road swing with a pair of matches this week, as it travels to Akron on Tuesday, Oct. 10 for a 7:00 pm match and heads to Horizon League co-leader Green Bay on Saturday, Oct. 14, for an 8:00 pm ET contest.
  • CSU lost its lone match last week, dropping a 2-0 decision to Milwaukee after allowing a pair of second-half goals.

Women's Soccer

  • The Vikings (7-7, 3-2 HL) return home to host Detroit Mercy on Saturday (Oct. 14) night at 7:00 pm at Krenzler Field.
  • CSU earned a key three points with a 3-2 win at Green Bay on Saturday. Ashley Thiss and Toni Dickson scored first half goals, while Grace Grant scored the game-winner with just over three minutes left.
  • Thiss, Grant and Katie Bainbridge tallied assists with Bainbridge moving into second place on the all-time assist list at CSU with 11.

Men's Swimming & Diving

  • Cleveland State takes the upcoming week off from competition before opening dual action at Xavier (Oct. 19) and Cincinnati (Oct. 20).
  • The Vikings finished third at their season-opening meet at Colgate with 742 points a junior Jason van der Touw won the 100 and 200 freestyle while freshman Matt Akers swept the diving events.

Women's Swimming & Diving

  • Cleveland State takes the upcoming week off from competition before opening dual action on the road at Xavier (Oct. 19) at at Cincinnati (Oct. 20).
  • The Vikings finished fourth at their season-opening meet at Colgate with 531.5 points as freshman Dana Bender won the 200 backstroke and junior Molly McNamara had a pair of top-three individual finishes.

Men's Tennis

  • The Vikings will return to the courts this weekend, participating in the Louisville Invitational from Friday through Sunday (Oct. 13-15).
  • Entering the tournament, freshman Matthew Terry owns a perfect 4-0 record on the young season, while the doubles team of sophomore Nico Mostardi and freshman Luke Phillips also stands at 4-0 after the first fall tournament.

Women's Tennis

  • Cleveland State will continue its fall slate at the ITA Midwest Regional this week, with action beginning on Thursday, October 12 in Ann Arbor, Mich.
  • CSU hosted the second annual Viking Invitational last weekend, with Isabella Spindler capturing the singles title and Spindler and Aleksandra Golawska earning the doubles title.

Volleyball

  • Cleveland State (10-7, 3-3 HL) will split its time at home and on the road this week, hosting Northern Kentucky in a midweek matchup on Wednesday, October 11 at 6:00 pm, before traveling to Green Bay for a Friday evening contest on October 13, beginning at 7:00 pm ET.
  • Last time out, the Vikings picked up their 10th win of the season in a 3-0 sweep at Youngstown State, before falling at Oakland, 3-1.
  • Entering the week, Cleveland State leads the Horizon League in all three offensive categories; hitting percentage (.252), kills (14.05) and assists (13.32).

VIKING OF THE WEEK

Isabella Spindler | Jr. | Women's Tennis
Spindler posted a perfect 3-0 singles record to claim the Viking Invitational singles title and teamed up with Aleksandra Golawska to win their second straight Viking Invitational doubles title, combining for a perfect 5-0 mark over the weekend. She is now 6-0 in singles this fall.

OTHER TOP PERFORMERS

Katie Bainbridge | Sr. | Women's Soccer
Had an assist in win at Green Bay, moving into second place on all-time list at CSU with 11 career assists.

Karen Barrientos | Sr. | Cross Country
Recorded a fifth place individual finish at the Disney Cross Country Classic - her second top-five finish of the season with a time of 18:37.

Grace Grant | Fr. | Women's Soccer
Had a goal and assist in win at Green Bay, including game-winning goal with just over three minutes left.

Joey Krecic | Sr. | Men's Golf
Made eight birdies in final round of CSU Invitational, en route to a season-low round of 67.

Jason van der Touw | Jr. | Men's Swimming
Won the 100 and 200 freestyle events at the season opening meet at Colgate.
