A LOOK AT WHAT'S HAPPENING
CROSS COUNTRY
- The Vikings will head south to Florida this weekend, competing in the Disney Cross Country Classic 5K on Saturday, October 6).
- Last time out, Cleveland State competed in the All-Ohio Championship, with Karen Barrientos (17th) and Anna Brandt (18th) both placing in the top-20 among Division I runners.
FENCING
- CSU is out of action until Nov. 4-5 at the Elite Duals Invitational.
- The Vikings continued their season on Sunday at the Ohio State Duals. The men's squad went 4-2 with wins over Michigan State, Iowa, Xavier and Bowling Green.
- The women's squad posted a 3-3 mark with wins over Bowling Green, Iowa and Xavier.
MEN'S GOLF
- The Vikings will host the CSU Invitational on Monday and Tuesday (Oct. 2-3) at Barrington CC in Aurora.
- It will be CSU's second to last event of the fall and the first since placing eighth of 16 teams at the EKU Invitational on Sept. 16-17.
- Junior Anton Krecic leads the team with a 72.4 average this year and has been the team's top finisher in all three events this fall.
MEN'S SOCCER
- Cleveland State (5-4-1, 3-0-1 HL) concludes its three-match homestand this Saturday, Oct. 7, by welcoming Milwaukee to Krenzler Field at 7:00 pm.
- The Vikings began last week with a 2-1 victory over Patriot League preseason favorite Loyola (Md.) and then took down Belmont, 2-1, in Horizon League action over the weekend.
- Hesham Hammouda and Noah Pio both tallied a goal and two assists on the week.
WOMEN'S SOCCER
- CSU (6-7, 2-2 HL) continues League play with a 2:00pm ET match at Green Bay on Saturday (Oct. 7).
- The Vikings split a pair of matches last week, earning a 5-1 win over Youngstown State – scoring the most goals in a League match in program history – and falling 2-0 at UIC.
- Dani Sowinski scored two goals vs. YSU, while McKenna Vento, Aliani Lorenzo and Toni Dickson also scored goals.
SWIMMING & DIVING
- Cleveland State opens its 2017-18 season at the Justin Jennings Memorial Invitational at Colgate on Friday and Saturday (Oct. 6-7). The two-day event features five men's teams and six women's squads.
WOMEN'S TENNIS
- Cleveland State will return to the courts this weekend, hosting the second annual Viking Invitational on Friday, October 6 - Sunday, October 8.
- For the 2017 edition of the Viking Invitational, the Vikings will welcome Akron, Cincinnati and West Virginia to the Medical Mutual Tennis Pavilion.
VOLLEYBALL
- Cleveland State (9-6, 2-2) will continue Horizon League play on the road this weekend, traveling to Youngstown State (Friday, October 6) and Oakland (Saturday, October 7).
- Last time out, the Vikings split their first homestand of the 2017 season, picking up a 3-1 win against IUPUI before falling 3-1 to Wright State.
- Entering the week, Cleveland State still leads the league in all major offensive statistics; hitting percentage (.256), kills (13.97) and assists (13.31).
VIKING OF THE WEEK
Hesham Hammouda | Sr. | Men's Soccer
Hammouda helped the Vikings to a pair of wins last week with one goal and two assists. He tallied the game-winner in the 59th minute in a 2-1 win over Loyola (Md.) on Monday and had the assist on both goals in a 2-1 victory over Belmont on Saturday.

Averaged 5.25 digs per set in CSU's two matches last week, moving into sixth on the all-time digs list in school history (1,205).
Briana Nidermeier | So. | Women's Soccer
Tallied her first career point with an assist in Wednesday's victory over Youngstown State.
Noah Pio | Jr. | Men's Soccer
Notched a goal and two assists in CSU's two wins last week, including assist on game-winning goal vs. Loyola (Md.).
