A LOOK AT WHAT'S HAPPENING

Cross Country
• The Vikings will return to the course for their second straight 6K this weekend, participating in the All-Ohio Championship on Friday, September 29, at Cedarville.
• CSU picked up its first-ever team title, placing first at the Lock Haven Invitational. Individually, the Vikings had five runners place in the top-25, including Karen Barrientos who finished sixth.

Fencing
• CSU returns to action on Sunday (Oct. 1) at the OSU Duals.
• The Vikings opened the 2017-18 season by hosting the CSU Open on Saturday in Woodling Gym.
• Freshman Ahmad Taqi won the foil, while freshman Declan Forth finished fourth in the saber.

Men's Golf
• The Vikings will host the CSU Invitational on Oct. 2-3 at Barrington CC in Aurora, Ohio, in the second to last event of the fall for CSU. Junior Anton Krecic leads the team with a 72.4 scoring average this fall and has been the top finisher for the Vikings in all three events.

Women's Golf
• The Vikings will close the fall season at the Shirley Spork Invitational in East Lansing, Mich, on Oct. 9-10.
• CSU competed in two events last week, finishing 11th of 19 at Ball State and seventh of 10 at Michigan State.
• The Vikings carded a school record low round of 292 in the first round at Ball State and senior Sophie Kelner finished tied for 12th with rounds of 72-72-77 (221).

Men's Soccer
• CSU (3-4-1, 2-0-1 HL) hosts two matches this week, playing Loyola (Md.) on Monday (Sept. 25) at 6:00 pm and hosting Belmont for a League match on Saturday (Sept. 30) at 7:00 pm.
• The Vikings won at preseason League favorite Oakland on Saturday night, 3-0, as Vlad Jandric scored two goals and Noah Pio added another.

Women's Soccer
• The Vikings (5-6, 1-1 HL) host Youngstown State on Wednesday (Sept. 27) at 7:00 pm and travel to UIC for an 8:00 pm ET match on Saturday (Sept. 30).
• CSU earned its first League win of the season with a 4-2 victory over Oakland on Saturday.
• Dani Sowinski scored three goals, becoming the fourth player in school history to record a hat trick, while Jenna Prathapa scored a goal and had an assist.

Women's Tennis
• The Vikings are out of action until they host the second annual Viking Invitational (October 6-8).
• CSU had its first fall tournament of the 2017-18 season last weekend, competing at the Akron Shootout.
• Junior Isabella Spindler won the Flight 1 Singles Title, after posting a perfect 3-0 record at the top of the lineup.

Volleyball
• Cleveland State (8-5, 1-1 HL) will play at home for the first time this year, hosting IUPUI (Friday, September 29) and Wright State (Saturday, September 30) in a weekend homestand at Woodling Gymnasium.
• Prior to Friday night's match against IUPUI the Vikings will unveil their 2016 Horizon League Championship & NCAA Tournament banners.
• During the opening weekend of Horizon League play, the shorthanded Vikings split their matches at Milwaukee & UIC, picking up a 3-1 victory against the Panthers, and dropping a 3-1 contest to the Flames.

VIKING OF THE WEEK

Dani Sowinski | Jr. | Women's Soccer

Sowinski led the Vikings to a 4-2 win over Oakland on Saturday by scoring three goals. She netted goals in the eighth and 38th minutes and scored on a penalty kick in the 67th minute after she was taken down in the box. Sowinski became the fourth CSU player to record a hat trick and the first since 2014.

Tallied two goals to lead CSU to a 3-0 win at preseason League favorite Oakland.

Isabella Spindler | Jr. | Women's Tennis
Captured the Flight 1 singles title at the Akron Shootout with a 3-0 mark.

Emily Turski | Sr. | Women's Golf
Fired a career-low one-under-par 71 in second round of Cardinal Classic.
