A LOOK AT WHAT'S HAPPENING

Men's Basketball
• Cleveland State (5-9, 1-1 HL) continues Horizon League play with two road games this weekend. The Vikings play at Wright State on Thursday (Jan. 5) at 7:30 pm and travel to Northern Kentucky on Saturday (Jan. 7) for a 1:00 pm contest.
• The Vikings opened League play by splitting two home games over the weekend. After falling to Green Bay, CSU rebounded to top Milwaukee, 62-53, on New Year's Eve.
• Bobby Word averaged 15.0 points in the two games, hitting 8-of-13 from three-point.
• Demonte Flannigan just missed his seventh career double-double in the win over Milwaukee, recording 18 points and nine rebounds.

Women's Basketball
• The Vikings (6-6, 1-0 HL) continue Horizon League play with games at Northern Kentucky on Thursday (Jan. 5) at 5:00 pm and at Wright State at 1:00 pm on Saturday (Jan. 7).
• CSU opened Horizon League play with a 71-68 victory over Youngstown State on Saturday (Dec. 31).
• Ashanti Abshaw led three Vikings who finished in double-figures with 27 points, while Jade Ely posted 15 points and a team-best 15 rebounds.
• For her efforts in the win, Ely was named the Horizon League Freshman of the Week for the second consecutive week.

Men's Swimming & Diving
• The Vikings (2-1) will compete at Copa Coqui in Puerto Rico on Thursday (Jan. 4) during their winter training trip.
• CSU returns to action after the holiday break Jan. 14 for a Horizon League dual at UIC at 2:00 pm.
• The Vikings have been out of action since winning the Magnus Cup (Nov. 18-20) for the third consecutive season, as they accrued 1,608.5 points.
• Senior Philipp Sikatzki broke the school record in the 200 IM, reset two pool records and notched NCAA 'B' cut times in four events. Sophomore Tommi Wolst book the school record in the 200 backstroke and surpassed two NCAA 'B' standards.

Women's Swimming & Diving
• The Vikings (2-2) will compete at Copa Coqui as part of their winter training trip in Puerto Rico on Thursday (Jan. 4).
• CSU returns to action on Jan. 14 when the Vikings travel to UIC for a Horizon League dual at 2:00 pm.
• The Vikings finished fourth of 14 teams at the Magnus Cup (Nov. 18-20) in their last action with 800.5 points, their best finish at the meet since 2013.
• Sophomore Molly McNamara broke the school record in the 100 fly, with a 'B' standard, and also won the 200 fly. Junior Tobie Zeller won the 100 breaststroke for the Vikings.

Wrestling
• The Vikings (1-4) are out of action until Jan. 15 when CSU opens the EWL slate with a 2:00 pm match at George Mason.
• CSU competed at the prestigious Southern Scuffle on Jan. 1-2 with Nick Montgomery placing eight at 149 pounds.
• Montgomery was the lone unseeded wrestler to place at 149 pounds, earning two wins via fall, including a victory over the No. 7 ranked wrestler in the country.
• Evan Cheek posted two technical falls at 133 pounds on the first day.

VIKING OF THE WEEK

Nick Montgomery| Senior | Wrestling | Madison, Ohio

Montgomery placed eighth at the prestigious Southern Scuffle to open the 2017 calendar year. He went 3-3 at 149 pounds and was the only unseeded wrestler to place at the weight class. He won his first match with a fall in 33 seconds and defeated the No. 7 ranked wrestler in the nation in the third round with a fall in 1:37. He also won his first consolation match, 10-8.

Evan Cheek | So. | Wrestling
Posted two technical falls on the first day of the Southern Scuffle, winning those matches by a combined score of 35-3.

Jade Ely | Fr. | Women's Basketball
Tallied 15 points and 15 rebounds in win over YSU to open League slate.

Terrell Hales | Jr. | Men's Basketball
Played just one minute vs. Milwaukee, but came up with a steal with 33 seconds left leading to fast break lay-up to seal the win.
