A LOOK AT WHAT'S HAPPENING

Cross Country
• The Vikings will compete in their final tune-up before the Horizon League Championship this weekend, participating in the Jenna Strong Fall Classic in Wilmington, Ohio on Friday, October 14.
• Last time out, Cleveland State ran at the Storm Invitational after having to cancel its annual trip to Florida, with Karen Barrientos and Ashlyn Woods recording top-10 finishes.

Fencing
• CSU will continue its season this weekend by participating in the OSU Open and the OSU Duals at Ohio State Saturday and Sunday.

Men's Golf
• CSU concludes its fall season on Monday and Tuesday at the Kenny Perry Invitational, hosted by Western Kentucky.
• The Vikings finished third at last week's CSU Invitational as senior Patrick Luth tied for fourth place and sophomore Anton Krecic finished seventh.
• Luth leads the Horizon League with a 69.9 scoring average this year and has shot par or better in 10 of his 12 rounds this fall.

Women's Golf
• The Vikings close the fall season on Monday and Tuesday at the Roseann Schwartz Invitational in Youngstown.
• CSU tied for fourth out of 10 teams at the Kzoo Classic last week as junior Sophie Kelner finished in sixth place, shooting a 54-hole total of 226. Kelner shot rounds of 75-74-77 and now has three top-10 finishes in four events this fall.

Men's Soccer
• CSU (4-6-2, 2-1-2 HL) has a single match this week as it hosts Horizon League foe UIC on Saturday, Oct. 15, at 7:00 pm.
• The Vikings went 0-1-1 in two matches last week, falling to Xavier, 1-0, and playing to a 0-0 draw at Northern Kentucky. Freshman Sebastian Kalk registered his first collegiate shutout with an impressive seven-save effort.

Women's Soccer
• The Vikings (4-9, 1-4 HL) continue Horizon League play with a 1:00 pm match at Detroit on Saturday.
• CSU dropped its lone match last week, falling 2-1 to UIC on Saturday night.
• Kaila Sargema scored her team-leading fifth goal of the season, which was also the 17th of her career.

Swimming & Diving
• CSU is off this upcoming week before it begins dual meet action on Oct. 21 at St. Bonaventure.
• The Vikings officially began the season this past weekend at the Colgate Fall Classic. The men finished second of four teams with 962 points while the women were fourth of seven teams with 453 points.
• Senior Philipp Sikatzki won four events, while sophomores Tommi Wolst and Molly McNamara each won two events. The men also won all three relays contested while the women posted one first-place relay finish.

Women's Tennis
• After hosting the Viking Invitational last weekend, Cleveland State will take a couple weeks off from competition, returning to the courts at the ITA Midwest Regional on Thursday, October 20.
• Cleveland State welcomed Akron, Duquesne, and West Virginia to the Medical Mutual Tennis Pavilion for the Viking Invitational over the weekend – the first-ever fall tournament hosted by Cleveland State.
• The Cleveland State doubles team of Aleksandra Golawska and Isabella Spindler was named the Viking Invitational Doubles Champion, after going 3-1 at the top of the doubles lineup throughout the weekend.

Volleyball
• Cleveland State (14-4, 5-1 HL) will look to extend its current five-match winstreak this week, hosting Green Bay in a midweek contest on Wednesday, October 12 (6:00 p.m.) and traveling to Wright State on Friday, October 14.
• Last weekend, the Vikings picked up a five-set victory over Milwaukee and posted a 3-0 sweep of UIC.
• Senior Aaliyah Slappy recorded the first double-double of her career vs. Milwaukee, setting career-highs in kills (16) and blocks (10).
• Slappy now enters this week's contests just four blocks shy of recording 300 for her career.

VIKING OF THE WEEK

Alexis Middlebrooks | Junior | Elyria, Ohio

Middlebrooks helped the Vikings to a pair of home wins over the weekend as CSU extended its win streak to five straight and move into a tie for first place in the Horizon League. She combined for 29 kills and hit .404 in victories over Milwaukee and UIC, averaging 3.62 kills and 1.25 blocks per set in the two matches.

Won four events at the season opening Colgate Fall Invitational.
