A LOOK AT WHAT'S HAPPENING
Cross Country
• The Vikings will return to the 5K course this weekend, traveling south for the Disney Cross Country Classic on Saturday, October 8.
• Last time out, Cleveland State finished seventh among Division I schools at the All-Ohio Championship on Friday, with Karen Barrientos pacing the Vikings with a 27th overall finish (22:39).
Men's Golf
• The Vikings will host the CSU Invitational on Monday and Tuesday (Oct. 3-4) at Barrington CC in Aurora, Ohio.
• The event will feature 11 teams and is the second to last fall event of the season for CSU. The Vikings haven't been in action since finishing third of 18 teams at the EKU Invitational on Sept. 17-18.
• Senior Patrick Luth leads the Horizon League with a 70.1 scoring average this year.
Women's Golf
• CSU is in action on Monday and Tuesday (Oct. 3-4) at the Kzoo Classic hosted by Western Michigan.
• The Vikings won the second tournament title in program history last week, claiming the Golden Grizzlies Invitational by one shot over host Oakland.
• Freshmen Ellie Cronin and Kaylee Neumeister tied for fourth place with 36 hole totals of 158.
Men's Soccer
• CSU (4-5-1, 2-1-1 HL) has two contests this week, a home affair Tuesday (7:00 p.m.) against nationally ranked Xavier and a Horizon League game Saturday at Northern Kentucky (7:30 p.m.).
• The Vikings were forced to settle for a 1-1 tie in their lone match this past week against Green Bay despite outshooting the Phoenix, 14-6.
• Freshman Lawrence Karpeh scored his team-leading fourth goal of the season in the contest.
Women's Soccer
• CSU (4-8, 1-3 HL) concludes its three-match homestand with a 7:00 pm match vs. UIC on Saturday (Oct. 8).
• The Vikings dropped two matches last week, falling 2-0 to Wright State on Wednesday and 1-0 on Saturday to Northern Kentucky.
• Jamie Daniels combined to make 21 saves in the two matches, including a career-high 13 against NKU, tied for the third most in a match in program history.
Swimming & Diving
• CSU opens the regular season this coming weekend as it participates in the Colgate Fall Classic Oct. 7-8.
• The Vikings hosted their seventh annual Splash Bash meet this past Saturday. The Green team topped the White team in intersquad action, 237.5-202.5.
Women's Tennis
• Cleveland State will continue its fall schedule at home this weekend, hosting the Viking Invitational (Friday, October 7 – Sunday, October 9) at the Medical Mutual Tennis Pavilion.
• The Vikings will welcome Akron, Duquesne, and West Virginia to the MMTP for the three-day tournament.
• After one weekend of fall play, freshman Blanche Lenoan leads the Vikings with a 3-0 singles record, while the doubles team of Aleksandra Golawska and Isabella Spindler has a team-best 2-1 mark.
Volleyball
• Cleveland State (12-4, 3-1 HL) will begin a three-match homestand this weekend, hosting Milwaukee at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, October 7 and UIC at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 8.
• Over the weekend, the Vikings picked up a 3-2 win at Northern Kentucky and a 3-1 victory at Valparaiso, keeping their record perfect on the road during league contests (3-0).
• Junior Alexis Middlebrooks earned a spot in the all-time top-10 list in block assists at CSU, as she finished the weekend ranked ninth with 256 career block assists.
VIKING OF THE WEEK
Ellie Cronin | Freshman | Women's Golf
Cronin helped CSU win the second tournament title in program history, tying for fourth place with rounds of 82-76 for a 36-hole total of 158 at the Golden Grizzlies Invitational. She was tied for 14th place after the opening round and fired a career-low 76 in round two, which was tied for the lowest round of the tournament, helping CSU claim the title by one shot over host Oakland.
